Wadenwickel

A traditional healing method to lower the fever are the calf wraps. As with sweating, they cause heat to be removed from the body when the moisture evaporates. For the treatment, two cloths of cotton or linen are dyed in lukewarm water and wrung out only slightly. It is a widespread mistake that the water should be cold, because the cold water would interrupt sweating. Then, wrap the damp cloth for twenty to thirty minutes around the lower legs, leaving the joints spared. After the moisture has evaporated from the calf wraps, the procedure can be repeated. In 1 – 1.5 hours the temperature can be reduced by up to 1.5 degrees. But the fever should not be reduced by more than one degree, because that would put too much strain on the circulation. In babies, calf wounds do not make much sense because the body area of the calves is too small on which the moisture can evaporate. Instead, the parents can lower the fever of the baby by putting him a damp t-shirt.

To inhale, put a porcelain bowl or a cooking pot in front of you on the table, fill the vessel with hot water (42-47 degrees) and add an additive. Then place a towel over your head so that no steam can escape, and bend over the steaming water, but not too close. To avoid burning yourself when inhaling, keep a distance of about two hand widths. After ten or twenty minutes, remove the cloth from the head and wash the face lukewarmly.
